For Winter Vket 2021 I made a set of free avatar models for VRChat and other social VR.
It was a fun experience to release a set of models out into the world. They haven’t seen huge adoption yet but a dozen or so downloads makes me happy.
You, too, can run around as a hamster and share the joy of cute hamhams with everyone around you!
I’ve been making VR models for a while now but this is the first full release of an avatar that I’ve publicly distributed. It’s an interesting experience, and there’s a lot more to consider than just the creation.
You have to create a VR model for distribution in such a way as it can be used by novices. So everything needs to be clearly labeled with clear instructions on how to use it.
I don’t know if I’ve done the documentation part very well yet. I’ve certainly made video tutorials on the subject and there are many others online.
I did an update to the Hamhams today to fix some weight painting on Marley (the orange one).
I hope you like them! I certainly liked making them.
