I went with a friend and a bunch of furries into the woods. I did not have any idea what to expect when we got there.

Campfurs is an event which has happened yearly in the fall for 18 years now. This is the first year I attended. Apparently it takes place in a different campground or area each time.

This time we stayed at a soy bean farm which also had goats, llamas, donkeys, and horses!

We gave the livestock a few plantain chips and continued on until our friend’s little Yarris bottomed out on a rock! The path was not made for vehicles really. It was more of a pounded down tractor trail out to the soybean field. I felt bad for our friend Munch, so I suggested we all get out and let some pressure off of the suspension so hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

As we walked in we passed through a winding path to a parking area. We parked and I took matters into my own hands. It had been a long trip in, and I wanted to get set up quickly and then relax.

Following Chibi and Tundra in, I found myself walking through a muddy tractor path into what was apparently our campground. The terrain was rough, with many roots and rocks and not much level ground to speak of.

We found what looked like an outhouse, but it really was a duck blind or something. There were two chairs inside and slit windows.

I set up the tent on the left as fast as I could, but there were missing pieces. I made do with zip ties, para-cord, and whatever sticks and pegs were around.

After that, I helped set up a small “4 man tent” which actually ended up being only really good enough for one of us. I claimed this as my own, because if everyone else was going to be partying all night, I wanted the option of sleeping in peace.

This turned out to be the right option. Nobody else to mess with my things, and a nice cozy and dry place to stay made my experience much better. The previous large tent was, unfortunately, very very old and apparently leaked.

The rest of the weekend consisted of me picking up after people once they had drunkenly gone to bed, and left everything else out in the rain.

I set up a giant tarp with a pole in the middle so people’s camp chairs wouldn’t be left out in the rain anymore and helped make some coffee.

It rained all weekend but we had a ton of fun despite the weather.

There was a demonstration on how to do rope-play safely and consensually, which I found very artistic and interesting.

We had a friend come in from work for one night and he brought his power bank and a projector, which was quite the experience while camping.

One of the most magical parts was when Chibi gave us all lanterns to light and release into the sky. They were so pretty! What a lovely way to cap off the evening on Saturday.

But we stayed up longer, and partied a bit more. Once I had taken more than my fill, I declared that it was time to go to bed, and I did so. I had not slept one wink all weekend, but I slept at least 4 hours that night.

After we woke up, I slowly went about making sure friends were fed and herded cats toward the car with our possessions. The constant rain all weekend had made the trail out even slicker than before.

This made for a challenge, but we made it out. We even made it back in time to make sure one of us was able to make a connection to a train in Toronto.

Now I’m going through my photos and reminiscing about another adventure. Hopefully I can share many more! ^-^
