Blag about it already!

My cat Emmett sitting on the corner of our new couch in a sunbeam. It's by Cozey!

I put a reminder in my gCal to blag about it every week but I almost never did.

I think I was building this up into a bigger task than it is.

Firstly, I had a bit of a snafu at work where I should have known better than to code extra undocumented functionality in an attempt to make the front end of a site more robust.

I ended up having to remove it because the resulting extra calls to an API were causing confusion and worried the back end team that perhaps it could lead to edge case bugs.

In yet more work fun, the task was poorly defined and I didn't ask enough questions clearly, as I ended up implementing a fully featured promotional banner when one already exists.

All the product team wanted was for us to update the front end code, but they left all kinds of irrelevant detail in the acceptance criteria which led me to believe more work was necessary.

Both of these situations seem like amateur mistakes to me, and I have done some reflection about it.

The trouble with being a coder with ADHD is that the temptation to just solve the immediate problem without taking a moment to plan thoroughly is very strong.

We must not fall into this temptation.

Well, those are my thoughts for today.
